Kolkata is the city of joy, exuberance, and vitality; these are exactly the qualities reflected in the jewellery designs the master craftsmen of the city churn out. To help the world savor this unique jewellery style, UBM India is launching a first of its kind initiative – the Kolkata Jewellery & Gem Fair. The KJGF is a three day B2B jewellery mega trade fair, and is set put this city on the world map not only as the holy destination of handcrafted gold jewellery, but also as the capital of the best jewellery creations in the world. The event is going to be the very first truly international B2B jewellery exhibition in East India and is scheduled to be held from the 11th to 13th January, 2014 at the Milan Mela Exhibition Complex at Science City in Kolkata.
The KJGF will serve as the ideal platform, for domestic and international exhibitors to showcase their signature designs and products. This event shall cater to over 160 leading exhibitors presenting the very best in plain & studded gold jewellery, loose diamonds, and intricate modern and traditional jewellery designs to over 6000 serious buyers. The KJGF will open up never before seen opportunities to network, build relationships, and create alliances with key industry professionals.
According to Vivek Jain, Convenor, Calcutta Gems & Jewellery Association 2002, “The Kolkata Jewellery & Gem Fair 2014 by UBM India will provide an ideal platform for buyers from all over the country & gem and jewellery industry in East India. Kolkata handmade jewellery finally gets a long deserved platform to showcase the best of the creations to the entire world. This is truly a proud moment to be associated with this mega initiative.”
A unique feature of the launch edition of the KJGF is the ‘The Golden Hand Award’ by UBM India. This award show will invite craftsmen to share their best designs; a judging panel comprising of industry experts will judge the design; and felicitate the winner with a handsome reward. The Golden Hand Award will not only be an initiative to display the fine skills of the jewellery craftsmen but also serve as a platform for them to showcase their talents to the world.
“The Golden Hand Awards are one of the first of its kind initiative for the entire craftsmen community. Initiatives like these recognize the artistic brilliance of Indian karigars who have long been deprived of platforms where they can exhibit their skills to the industry at large.” Explained Bablu De, President, Swarn Shilpi Bachao Samiti
Mr. Joji George, Managing Director, UBM India, shares, “The Kolkata Jewellery & Gem Fair and the Golden Hand Award is poised to enhance jewellery business and craftsmanship in East India and help them grow further. The KJGF will be a mix of domestic and international jewellery all under one roof, and will not only let businesses showcase their top of the line products, but also give them a solid networking platform.” In conclusion he adds, “East India is a key region for the jewellery industry of India and UBM is confident that by working with industry partners we can reach further heights in years to come.”
The launch of the Kolkata Jewellery & Gem Fair in early next year promises to be the most closely watched calendar event in East India’s jewellery market. Apart from providing a networking platform for business opportunities, KJGF’14 will also focus on developing the jewellery industry in Bangladesh, Patna, and Ranchi.
